AROUND THE WORLD IN 20 LESSONS: OVERVIEW AND RULES:
This Curriculum has been formatted and written to be like a game in which each
of the 4th Grade Classes have a chance to compete against eachother, while
learning facts about the various musics, culture, and life in other countries.
As they do this, they are learning to develop critical music listening skills
and vocabulary, and pulling together to work as teams to hone socially cooperative
behavior.
The scores for each of the Classes will be posted online at the end of each week. Each behavior color and rule is worth 1 point for the week. If a given class loses a point for behavior, their behavior score for the week will be posted. The missing color and number of the rule will be listed to the right of the score, with a minus before it.
Each class has the opportunity to gain extra points for their team by looking at this website, and finding and printing facts about the country we have covered in class.
Each fact area discovered is worth 1 extra point:
• clothing = 1,
• native instruments = 1,
• the name of countries which border the country the music originates from =1
• any other interesting or pertinent fact about the culture, language etc, from this website or any other research source outside of class =1
If only one child does the work, the class earns the extra points, but that child gets a + next to his or her name for the day for doing the extra work, so he or she will be recognized individually, as well as for helping their class. The same holds true for the guessing of the country we visited:
If only one group in the class guesses the country correctly, the group gets a plus, but the whole class also gets the credit for correctly guessing the country.
If the class guesses the correct continent, but not the correct country, they get 2 points for the effort.
If they guess the correct country, they earn 5 points for the right answer.
If no one in the class guesses the right country OR the right continent, they do not earn any points whatsoever for the country.
However,
if they go on line the subsequent week
and click
on the
lesson
for the previous week, do a little research,
they can easily find out where we
visited on the previous week. They
can earn points for their class and a + for themselves retroactively.
